Emil Filla Gallery Ústí nad Labem

History of action, structure

Emil Filla Gallery is a centre of not-for-profit organization People to fine art - Fine art to people (LVU - VUL, o. p. s.),

which came into existence in Ústí nad Labem in the year 1992 as a foundation and in the year 1999 transformed

into its present form. The foundation People to fine art - Fine art to people revitalized in years 1992 - 2002 the show

room of Emil Filla in Ústí nad Labem in Dlouhá street as an exhibition space, which realized large professional aims -

first of all to present a high - quality exhibition program of a transregional nature, to establish contacts and

cooperation with alike institutions in Bohemia and abroad, to present visual artists from the region of Ústí nad

Labem. Emil Filla show room in Ústí nad Labem emancipated from survival of last regime and under the name Emil

Filla Gallery started to profile as a modern exhibition institution with a expressive exhibition conception, witch

topped the regional and state borders.




Always again - searching and balancing

At the turn of years 2002 / 2003 was LVU - VUL, o. p. s. banished from a hire of spaces in Dlouhá street (the

building of Regional authority of the region Ústí). However, there were no other spaces in Ústi nad Labem for the

realization of noncommercial gallery's exhibition activity that has already obtained a settled place in terms of art

context. So from the year 2003 was the not-for-profit organization obliged to realize the activity in provisional

spaces - Emil Filla Gallery in the second floor of the Museum of the town Ústí nad Labem building and it opened at

the same time a new exhibition space, Gallery Raketa (Racket), in the building of Faculty of fine art and design

J. E. Purkyně University in Ústí nad Labem. The aspiration not to interrupt the continuity of exhibition activity and

also of creative artistic part of culture life in Ústí nad Labem was successful. Between years 2003 - 2005, it did not

reach a strong devaluation of won positions in terms of the contemporary exhibition activity and it did not reach an

invasion of foreign contacts and cooperation. Nevertheless was the want of high-quality space, which would be

adequate to the activity of Emil Filla Gallery, still urgent - not only thanks to planned reconstruction of Museum of

the town Ústí nad Labem, which prevented the "asylum" into the future, but also by reason of vitality and need of

Emily Filla Gallery in Ústí nad Labem. Thanks to a helpful dealing on the part of Municipality of the town Ústí nad

Labem, which supported efforts of LVU - VUL, o. p. s. to find and revitalize a new space for the exhibition activity,

succeeded over the years 2005 and 2006 to get and reconstruct for the Emil Filla Gallery in Ústí nad Labem spaces

in the Culture House. The exhibition activity returns thanks to this step back to places, where it once proceeded

(regional gallery of the town Ústí nad Labem).



Activity profile of Emil Filla Gallery

Gallery of Emil Filla in Usti nad Labem is on a long-term basis profiled as an independent, non-state and non -

commercial fine art institution. Its programm is mainly focused on presentation of contemporary art and mostly in a

transregional context. In those terms, cooperation with many distinguished institutions in Czech Republic and

abroad is initiated. Gallery of Emil Filla cooperates with Faculty of Art and Design and Department of Fine Arts by

Pedagogical Faculty of University of J. E. Purkyně in Ústí nad Labem and so helps to create interesting and

inspirational environment of this city also in terms of artistic education. Like that, it is becoming a sparkplug for

activities of the gifted North Bohemian young generation. Gallery of Emil Filla is as a one of the few devoted to the

presentation of the contemporary art on the professional level. Due to its participation on international projects and

due to cooperation with highly profiled institutions is this gallery without a doubt an institution of a Central European

importance.



Kunsthalle in Usti nad Labem

New spaces of Emil Filla Gallery on the third floor of Culture House of the city Ústí nad Labem are restored into the

form of exhibitory Kunsthalle, thus range that is cleared to architectural medulla in a way to correspond to current

requirements of exhibition operation. To the character of the contemporary fine art correspond also other spaces

without any prominent attributes that have no specific features of classical, academically perceived exhibition place

(museum, exhibition hall). To the presentation of contemporary fine art are on a big scale used new media. The

execution of the presentation itself is carried out e. g. by means of advertising strategies or structures and every-

day activities are used to generate the concept of the scheme. Right the concept Kunsthalle, space so undefined

and for that matter so reciprocal to casual public space, is for present artistic intentions also the most suitable one.

To a certain extend, it also reflects intrusion of the artistic features to the public territory. The space of Kunsthalle

suits to the character of of the exhibition programm, executed by LVU - VUL, o. p. s., as well as to the presentation

of quality and independent shows of prominent authors.



Inauguration of new spaces

New and restored spaces on the third floor of Culture House are becoming truly adequate place for the Gallery of

Emil Filla, corresponding with the amount and quality of created activities over the period of invested time. We are

confident that new spaces will become an open place not only for gettings-together among artisctic community, but

that it will also become an inspirational place for all cultural inhabitants of city Ústi nad Labem, Czech Republic and

mainly of Central Bohemia region. We believe that activities of Emil Filla Gallery and LVU - VUL, o. p. s. in Ústi nad

Labem, which we intend to widen in the future by residential art studios for local and foreign artists, art's workshop

for animation programms and longue with reading room, will become one of the cultural basis of this city and will

help to create a quality place to live in.



Inauguration of new spaces of Emil Filla Gallery will take place on Monday 12th of June, at 18:00 o'clock, on the

third floor of Culture House, Velká Hradební 19, Ústi nad Labem. Representatives of the Municipal council of the city

Ústi nad Labem and of LVU - VUL, o. p. s. will be present at the ceremony.



Part of the inauguration of the operation of Emil Filla Gallery in new spaces is a vernissage of dissertations of

students from Faculty of Art and Design by University of J. E. Purkyně, one of the important cooperating institutions

on the entire project.
